I’m El Marcel Simpson, I was born on the 05/08/2005 in North Yorkshire, England and have lived there my entire life. I am independent filmmaker but I’m mainly a hobbyist working with the few tools I have.
Online, I’m known as Elscarex which is the channel and label I distribute my projects though.
I’m a goth which means aside from a love of alternative music and fashion, I have punk ideals. My work is inspired in a part by morbidity and the avant-garde but most of all politics, society and it’s impact on us all. Sounds pretentious, I know. What I really mean is I like to express my deep empathy, confusion and views through my passion for visual arts.
I briefly studied film in college and under the BFI film academy where my group created a short film called “A Laugh to Die For”. Thankfully I did not act as I am more timid in front of a camera than I am talking behind one (and that’s an achievement). That insecurity and introversion is also what led to me leaving education.
Isolation is mainly what drives my interest for works with minimal acting and why a lot of my films are silent.
I do work with some people though. My good friend and collaborator Victor Corleone (known by the alias Victus) continues to pursue the same career. We often consult each other and collaborate when needed. In fact I feature in their 2023 short “Monotonous”, although like I stated acting has never been my strong suit.
Victor and I are in the midst of developing a few projects under the collaborative name Obitus. Distribution will be limited but news shall be shared on this very site. There are some bigger things coming, more ambitious than our previous silent but stylised portfolio.
*I have a house to run and Vic has a degree to pursue so there may be some delays.*
That does not mean I am abandoning individual projects however, so stay tuned!
